Review: The Long Hair of Death (1964)

Shakespearian drama done the gothic Italian black & white horror way!

“THE LONG HAIR OF DEATH” (I Lunghi Capelli Della Morte)

Director: Antonio Margheriti
Stars: Barbara Steele, George Ardisson, Halina Zalewska
Distributor: Raro Video
Runtime: 94 mins

“There she is, the witch!”

It takes place in a plague-ridden and witch-burning medieval past. A mother is burned at the stake, and her oldest daughter is also killed, before the horny lord is exposed as the reason. The youngest daughter is saved and gets married to the lords evil son years later. But another woman shows up, and an old curse is effectuated.

Even though it’s pretty evident that Mario Bava has been a major influence, this stands fine as one of the better Italian horror’s in the 60’s. Love Barbara Steele and her great presence. The music and atmosphere together with a good story makes this an essential view.
