Review: Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals (1977)

Emanuelle is a “free woman, and intend to behave as such”. Yes, yes, it’s Italian exploitation on the big screen again.

“EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS” (Emanuelle e gli ultimi cannibali)

Director: Joe D’Amato
Stars: Laura Gemser, Gabriele Tinti, Susan Scott
Distributor: Severin
Runtime: 94 mins

“She bit a chunk of the nurse’s breast and ate it. Just like a cannibal. Fantastic!”

Black Emanuelle, the sex-hungry free-spirited journalist has yet another scoop. Together with an anthropologist-playboy she travels to the Amazones to track down a certain cannibal tribe.

Another D’Amato sequel with Laura Gemser as the slender Emanuelle. He pulls back the hardcore sex, that he delved in the previous sequels, but jams up the gore. It seems like they went out of ideas on situations and plot in the series, but follow up the “snuff”-lead from “Emanuelle in America” and got on the up and coming Italian cannibal-trend. The movie is delightfully sleazy, gory and over the top as we like our exploitations to be. The soundtrack is awesome, and follows the new Severin release I bought.
