Review: Annabelle (2014)

Thought I would give it a shot, even though I’ve heard it was a bad horror movie. I had a blast!

Director: John R. Leonetti
Stars: Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Alfre Woodard
Distributor: Warner Bros
Runtime: 98 mins

“You cannot destroy what was never created.”

This takes place around the time of the Manson-murders. John has found the perfect gift for his young wife – a rare vintage doll. A crazy murderous woman put a spell on the doll while killing herself. Soon the young couple experience hauntings and evil doings all around.

This was way cooler than I imagined. The settings in a suburban church community in the late 60’s creates a good atmosphere that’s being shocked by evil episodes. I love the build-up and even the story. It’s got a bit of “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Omen” in it. The scares are cool as well, was hooked from the get go. I’m now looking forward to the follow up!
