Review: Waves of Lust (1975)

Like an over-sexed variation of Polanski’s thriller “Knife in the water” sponsored by J&B.

“You’re right, everything I do is for my own enjoyment.”

A young couple is invited to a trip on a yacht together with a cynical and misogynistic rich bastard and his girlfriend. On the boat the tension is growing with the bastards intense drinking, misogyny and growing madness. It’s a boat trip that’s doomed from the start.

Deodato is a good and controversial director. Haven’t seen a film that he made I didn’t like. It’s a great build up, but the ending could’ve been more explosive. There’s a couple of scenes that I coudn’t figure out, but the plot was ok. There’s lots of nudity and erotic encounters that’s working with the story, but would’ve been too far out in real life. The director’s wife, Silvia Dionisio is great eyecandy. She’s on the screen almost as much as the J&B whiskey.

A lovely release with a documentary, deleted scenes (that I think should have been incorporated), TV advertisments by the director, booklet and more. A full package as we like our dvd’s and blu’s to be.
