Review: Eye in the Labyrinth (1972)

A lovely mish-mash of psychological thriller and giallo. Mario Caiano at his best!

In a terrible nightmare Julie sees her lover getting stabbed to death. When he seems missing, Julie takes to a seaside village to find his whereabouts. The string of clues ends at a villa populated by a group of weird artists and bohemians which all seems to know bits and pieces of the mystery.

This is another delightfully psychadelic piece of Giallo. It’s stylish, playful and full of characters that defies logic and coommon sense in their irrational behavings. Cool music as well!
If you’re not into Gialli, this movie won’t make you a fan, but for the rest of us: We’ll have a jolly good time!

The Code Red blu-ray’s extras was just disappointing. Their new HD-transfer looks fine, but the additional sounds put in to underline the violence was just an embarrassment, and the same with Banana man’s “comic relief” presentation.
