Review: Day of Anger (1967)

There’s so many great spaghetti-westerns out there, and Lee van Cleef is in most of them.

The young bastard streetcleaner, Scott, is getting constantly bullied by the citizens of Clifton. A stranger that rides in to Clifton takes Scott under his wings and teach him to be a fast gunslinger, but not as fast as himself…for a reason.

day2

Classic spaghetti-western made by Sergio Leone’s assistant on his two first westerns, Tonino Valerii. The chemistry between Gemma and Van Cleef is sparkling. The Ortolani score sets the pace. It’s an intelligent piece of spaghetti with a good story, memorable quotes and some good action sequences (most notably a duel by sunrise set on the horseback while riding against eachothers, prepping their rifles along the way). Absolutelly worth your while!

Arrow has again done an amazing job restoring a movie. The quality is superb. The extras includes interviews with director, screenwriter and biographer. Two versions of the movie in both English and Italian. Deleted scene. Booklet.
